Mandatory Carbon Reporting

Quoted companies are now required to report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in their Directors' Report. This is a requirement of the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic Report and Directors' Report) Regulations 2013.

Who

Mandatory carbon reporting now applies to all quoted companies; being those that are UK incorporated and whose equity share capital is listed on the London Stock Exchange or in an EEA State, or admitted to trading on the NYSE or Nasdaq.

What

The Regulations require reporting of:-

all 6 Kyoto GHGs
emissions from fuel combustion, electricity, heat, steam etc
for activities under the company's global control
a ratio(s) to express the intensity of emissions
results for preceding year (except in first year)
methodologies used

When

The Regulations apply to reporting periods with year ends on and after 30/09/13. Companies will need to start gathering data for inclusion in their next Directors' Report.

How

The requirements are similar to those of voluntary schemes such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (see below). For this reason Burton Environmental can bring considerable expertise and experience to calculate your carbon emissions and compile reports.
