Ibis Hotels - ISO 14001 Gap Analysis & Development

The Accor Group is Europe’s largest hotelier and operates and number of hotel chains in the UK including Ibis, Mercure and Novotel. Ibis operates an ISO 14001 EMS throughout its French locations and wished to extend this to the UK. The main challenge in achieving this goal was the marked difference in French and UK legislation.

Burton Environmental performed a gap analysis of the French EMS with particular reference to legislative compliance. From this assessment it was possible to determine which controls needed modification to meet UK legislative requirements. Where ‘gaps’ were identified new controls were developed which integrated compliance with legislative requirements. The approach ensured that as far as possible consistency was maintained between French and UK systems, allowing for a smooth transfer of the EMS between France and the UK.
